The 10023853 Water Inlet Valve controls the entry of fresh water into the dishwasher tub at the beginning of and during various wash and rinse cycles. Operating via electrical signals from the main control board, the internal solenoid opens the valve to let a designated volume of pressurized water inside, then seals closed to prevent overfilling. Over time, calcium or sediment deposits from hard water can clog the internal screen mesh, or the mechanical solenoid can fail electrically. Common symptoms of a malfunctioning inlet valve include a dishwasher that will not fill with water, an E17 error code, poor cleaning results due to low water levels, or water continuously trickling into the bottom of the tub even when the unit is turned off.
