The 00492431 is a genuine OEM bake igniter designed for high-performance gas ranges and ovens. This "hot surface" igniter reaches extremely high temperatures to ignite the gas flowing through the oven burner tube. It is a critical safety and functional component; if the igniter fails to reach the required temperature, the gas valve will not open, preventing the oven from heating. Common symptoms of failure include the igniter glowing but failing to spark a flame, the oven taking a long time to light, or no heat during bake cycles. Because the silicon carbide element is extremely fragile, it must be handled with care to avoid oil transfer or physical breakage during installation.
