This genuine OEM evaporator temperature sensor (thermistor) precisely monitors the cooling patterns of the evaporator coils inside the refrigerator or freezer compartment. It constantly relays resistance changes back to the main electronic control module to dictate when the compressor should activate or when an automatic defrost cycle must be initiated. When this sensor degrades or develops an electrical fault, the system fails to accurately read internal temperatures. Symptoms of failure include severe frost accumulation across the cooling coils, erratic interior temperatures, the refrigerator running continuously, or the unit failing to enter defrost mode entirely.
